New music including Bleached, Inhaler, Nilufer Yanya and The War On Drugs on this week’s West Of The Fields podcast

I continued exploring recent releases from Melody’s Echo Chamber, The 1975, Jockstrap, Alvvays, The Orielles, Automatic, PVA and Editors on the show this week, while the retro alternative set featured a block of tunes specially requested by friend of the show Mr. Chris Peary for his birthday, as well as additional tunes chosen by me that were presumed to be in Mr. Peary’s “wheelhouse.”

New music including LCD Soundsystem, Paramore, Lucy Dacus and Jamie xx on this week’s West Of The Fields podcast

I continued exploring recent releases from Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Sorry, Arctic Monkeys, Automatic, Oliver Sim, Alex G and Suede on the show this week, while the retro alternative set focused on maximalist producer Dave Fridmann, including both famous acts he’s produced (Flaming Lips, Spoon, MGMT) and some more obscure ones (Gemma Hayes, Number Girl).

New music including Automatic, Beck, Courtney Barnett and Beth Orton on this week’s West Of The Fields podcast

I continued delving into recent releases from Editors, Preoccupations, Jockstrap, Björk, Causeway, Suede, The Afghan Whigs and Death Cab For Cutie on the show this week, while the retro alternative set took a long look at some classic “cult favorite” albums, spanning from Dennis Wilson and Gene Clark in the ’70s all the way to ’00s records from Clor and Studio, inspired by Pitchfork’s recent Sunday Review of Nona Hendryx’s “SkinDiver” album.

New music including White Lung, Suede, Hagop Tchaparian and PVA on this week’s West Of The Fields podcast

I continued exploring recent releases from Death Cab For Cutie, The Afghan Whigs, Hot Chip, Rina Sawayama, Phoebe Green and Daphni on the show this week, while the retro alternative set featured blocks of tunes from Roxy Music, Pet Shop Boys, New Order (in honor of seeing them all in concert in Boston last September!) and David Bowie (in recognition of seeing the new Bowie documentary, “Moonage Daydream,” at a theater while on my concert trip!).

New music including Sudan Archives, Manic Street Preachers, Phoenix and The Afghan Whigs on this week’s West Of The Fields podcast

I continued delving into recent releases from Jockstrap, Oliver Sim, Daphni, Causeway, Phoebe Green, Hot Chip and Sylvan Esso on the show this week, while the retro alternative set included both a block of rather anti-monarchy classics in honor of the late Queen Elizabeth II and a section of tunes from 1992 albums (plus a few singles) marking their 30th anniversary in September.

New music including Arctic Monkeys, Steve Lacy, Magdalena Bay and Causeway on this week’s West Of The Fields podcast

I continued delving into recent releases from Stella Donnelly, Working Men’s Club, Lauran Hibberd, Beabadoobee, Maggie Rogers and Hot Chip on the show this week, while the retro alternative set headed back to the late ’70s and early ’80s in Germany for a look at some of the great tunes from the Neue Deutsche Welle, the West German New Wave and post-punk scene. For good measure, I tacked on a bonus retro set of some fantastic 2002 songs marking their 20th anniversary.
