New music including Mannequin Pussy, Roisin Murphy, Georgia and David Jackson and Dry Cleaning on this week’s West Of The Fields podcast

I continued delving into recent releases from Japanese Breakfast, Iceage, Sleater-Kinney, St. Vincent, Black Midi and Squid on the show this week, while I again opted for a triple-punch retro alternative set, with a classic Italo disco block, a bunch of Japanese New Wave, pop and electronic music from the ’80s and a block of semi-forgotten 80s New Wave hits.

New music including Sharon Van Etten and Angel Olsen, Duran Duran, Black Midi and Olivia Rodrigo on this week’s West Of The Fields podcast

I continued exploring recent releases from St. Vincent, Japanese Breakfast, Dry Cleaning, Goat Girl and The Black Keys on the show this week, while I again opted for a jumbo three-part retro alternative set, with a block of Italo disco gems, a long set of Japanese New Wave, pop and electronic music from the early ’80s and a third block of obscure ’80s New Wave tracks (most of which are from Europe, I believe?)

New music including Inhaler, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Squid and Billy Nomates on this week’s West Of The Fields podcast

I continued delving into recent releases from Iceage, St. Vincent, The Black Keys, Goat Girl and Lana Del Rey on the show this week, while I did not one, not two, but three separate retro sets: one of forgotten ’80s New Wave gems, another focusing on more great Japanese pop music of the early ’80s and a third full of great tracks from the heyday of Italo disco.

New music including Death From Above 1979, St. Vincent and Japanese Breakfast on this week’s West Of The Fields podcast

The first show back on WMEB in over a year didn’t quite go as planned, after my 8-year-old laptop locked up about an hour into the show and I had to improvise the remainder of the program with music from the radio station library! Still, it was a joy to be back on the air and the spontaneity of flying by the seat of my pants reminded me of the first days doing my show back as a UM undergrad. Hopefully you’ll enjoy the results.

New music including St. Vincent, Wolf Alice, Japanese Breakfast and Iceage on this week’s West Of The Fields podcast

I continued exploring recent releases from Julien Baker, The Weather Station, Pale Waves, Arlo Parks and Goat Girl on the show this week, while in lieu of a normal retro set I played a block of tunes honoring the late electronic musician and producer SOPHIE, who died in an accidental fall in January, and blocks featuring some of my current musical obsessions, the New Wave-ier side of Japanese city pop of the early ’80s and mid-’80s Italo disco (as seen in the excellent documentary “Dons of Disco”).
